The Jalmagna Shivling is a natural rock in the Bhagirathi near the Gangotri ghats, believed to mark the spot where Shiva sat to receive the Ganga in his matted hair. The rock is under water for most of the season and shows only when the river level drops, usually in October and early November before the temple closes.
