Gangasagar Beach

The sacred confluence beach where the Ganga meets the Bay of Bengal, the heart of the Gangasagar pilgrimage.

Gangasagar Beach marks the exact point where the Ganga, after its long journey from the Himalayas, merges into the Bay of Bengal. Pilgrims take a ritual dip here before walking to the Kapil Muni Temple, a sequence considered essential during the annual Gangasagar Mela around Makar Sankranti. Outside the mela, the wide silver sand stretch offers a quieter, contemplative visit with calm waves and open horizon views. Cycle vans run the short distance between the beach and the temple for visitors who prefer not to walk.
