Adalaj Stepwell

Adalaj Stepwell descends five stories into the earth, built in 1499 by Queen Rudabai in Solanki architectural style. Octagonal openings let light filter down while keeping the lower landings several degrees cooler than the surface. Carved pillars, floral motifs, and detailed stonework line the walls, blending Hindu and Islamic craftsmanship. Once a resting point for travelers and traders, the stepwell now ranks among Gujarat's finest surviving water monuments and draws visitors for its architecture and cool, tranquil interior.
