Surajkund, meaning lake of the sun, is an artificial reservoir built in an amphitheatre-shaped embankment against the backdrop of the Aravalli hills. Dating back roughly a thousand years, the site combines historical engineering with a tranquil, temple-fringed setting that makes it a popular picnic spot outside festival season. Each February it transforms into the venue for the Surajkund International Crafts Mela, one of India's largest handicraft fairs, drawing artisans and visitors from across the country and abroad.
