Covered market street in Deira lined with jewellers selling gold, silver and gemstone jewellery.

The Gold Souk in Deira is a traditional market of jewellery shops under a covered wooden arcade, and one of the best known sights of old Dubai. Window after window is filled with gold chains, bangles and bridal sets, along with silver, diamonds and other stones.

You do not have to buy to enjoy it; many visitors simply walk the lanes for the displays. If you do shop, prices are linked to the daily gold rate plus a making charge, and bargaining over the making charge is normal. Ask for a receipt that shows weight and purity.

Shops set their own hours and many take a break in the afternoon, so mornings and evenings are usually the liveliest times. The spice souk and the Deira abra landing are a few minutes away on foot.

  • Address: Sikkat Al Khail Street, Al Ras, Deira, Dubai
  • How to Reach: Dubai Metro Green Line to Gold Souk or Al Ras station, then walk. From Bur Dubai, take an abra across the Creek to the Deira Old Souk and walk through the spice souk.
