Baidyanath Temple

A powerful Jyotirlinga where Shiva is worshipped as the divine healer (Vaidya), linked to Ravana's penance.

Baidyanath Temple in Deoghar, Jharkhand, is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva and one of the most significant pilgrimage sites in India. According to legend, the demon king Ravana offered his ten heads one by one to Lord Shiva here and was granted a boon, after which Shiva is worshipped as Baidyanath (the divine healer). The temple complex contains 22 temples within its premises and attracts millions of pilgrims, especially during the Shravan month when devotees carry holy Ganga water from Sultanganj on foot, sometimes covering over 100 km to offer it here.
