Lakhamandal Temple sits in the Jaunsar Bawar region of Dehradun district, on the banks of the Yamuna river at an elevation of around 1350 metres. A 6th century inscription records a Shiva shrine dedicated here by Princess Ishwara, while the present Nagara style structure dates to the 12th or 13th century. Excavations by the Archaeological Survey of India have uncovered numerous Shivalingas of varying sizes in the surrounding area. The site is protected as a monument of national importance and offers wide mountain views.
