Umngot River boating is the reason most travelers come to Dawki. From the main ghat or from Shnongpdeng upstream, you board a wooden country boat and drift over water so clear that pebbles on the bed stay visible on still winter days. The best clarity usually falls between November and March. Rides last about 30 to 45 minutes for a standard loop, longer if you add a sandbar stop. Arrive early to beat Shillong day-trip queues and soft midday glare.
