Yiga Choeling Monastery

The oldest Tibetan Buddhist monastery in Darjeeling, founded in 1850 and housing rare manuscripts, thangkas, and sacred Buddhist relics.

Commonly known as Old Ghoom Monastery, this is one of the oldest Tibetan Buddhist monasteries in the region, built in 1850. It enshrines a magnificent 15-foot statue of the Maitreya Buddha (Future Buddha) adorned with gold and precious stones. The walls are decorated with vibrant thangkas and ancient murals, offering visitors a profound sense of spirituality and a glimpse into the Gelugpa tradition of Buddhism.
