Singalila National Park runs along the Singalila Ridge on the West Bengal and Nepal border, about 30 km from Darjeeling. Its forests of rhododendron, oak and bamboo shelter red pandas, Himalayan black bears, leopards and many birds. The park is best known for the Sandakphu and Phalut trek, which follows the ridge to Sandakphu, the highest point in West Bengal, with views of Kanchenjunga and Everest. Spring brings the rhododendrons into bloom, and October to December gives the clearest mountain views.
