The Himalayan Mountaineering Institute (HMI) is a premier mountaineering training center established in 1954 in honor of Tenzing Norgay, who along with Sir Edmund Hillary, first summited Mount Everest in 1953. Located adjacent to the Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park, the institute offers comprehensive mountaineering courses, rock climbing, and adventure sports training. The HMI Museum houses an impressive collection of mountaineering equipment, photographs, and memorabilia from various expeditions, including artifacts from Tenzing Norgay's historic Everest climb. The institute features a statue of Tenzing Norgay and offers visitors insights into the world of mountaineering.
