Siruvani Waterfalls are located about 37 km from Coimbatore deep inside the Attappady Reserved Forest near the Kerala border. The waterfalls are fed by the Siruvani River, whose water is famously sweet and is frequently cited as among the purest and most pleasant tasting river water in India. The Siruvani dam was built in 1927 and the reservoir supplies drinking water to Coimbatore city. The forest surrounding the falls is rich in wildlife and tribal communities of the Kurumba and Irula tribes live in the area. Entry to the falls requires a permit from the forest department. The drive through the forest to the falls is itself scenic.
