Perur Pateeswarar Temple is one of the oldest and most architecturally significant temples in Coimbatore district, dedicated to Lord Shiva as Pateeswarar. The temple dates to at least the 7th century and is believed to have been visited by several of the Nayanmars, the Tamil Shaivite saints whose hymns form the Tevaram. The towering gopuram and the intricately carved mandapams are excellent examples of Dravidian temple architecture. The main idol of Lord Pateeswarar has a distinctive scar on his face, associated with a legend involving the divine cow Kamadhenu. The temple complex is large and well maintained. A special darshan of the Nataraja dance hall is a highlight for visitors.
