The Adiyogi Shiva Statue at the Isha Yoga Centre is the world's largest bust sculpture, standing 112 feet tall and crafted from 500 tonnes of steel. It was unveiled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Mahashivratri in 2017. The statue depicts Adiyogi, the first yogi, the one who is said to have transmitted the science of yoga to humanity. It sits at the foothills of the Velliangiri Mountains about 30 km from Coimbatore city. The Isha Yoga Centre surrounding it is a major spiritual destination drawing hundreds of thousands of visitors each year for yoga programmes, meditation retreats, and the Mahashivratri celebrations which attract over a million people. Entry to the grounds is free and the statue is illuminated dramatically after dark.
