Sethani Ka Johara

A beautifully frescoed 19th-century stepwell and reservoir built by a merchant's widow as relief during the great famine.

Sethani Ka Johara is a large stepwell-reservoir located about 3 km west of Churu on the Ratangarh road. It was commissioned around 1899 by Bhagwan Devi, the widow of merchant Seth Bhagwandas Bagla, as a community relief project during the devastating Chhapan Akaal famine. The structure follows classic Rajasthani architectural style, with multi-level stepped ghats descending to the water, and interior walls painted with intricate fresco murals. It is one of Churu's most photographed spots, especially at sunset.
