Aath Kambh Chhatri

An 18th-century eight-pillared cenotaph west of Churu's vegetable market, with remarkable murals including an early depiction of a European soldier.

Aath Kambh Chhatri, meaning the Eight Pillar Dome, is a memorial cenotaph built in 1776 on a Rajput cremation site west of Churu's old vegetable market. The most historically significant in a cluster of merchant chhatris along the town's northern edge, its interior walls carry murals including a rare painting of a European mercenary carrying a musket, one of the earliest Western figures in Rajasthani fresco art. The plinth is partially buried by windblown desert sand, giving it a half-submerged, time-worn quality that adds to its character.
