A swampy forest pool inside Chitwan National Park.
Chitwan National Park protects about 953 sq km of sal forest, riverine grassland and oxbow lakes in the Terai. It was set up in 1973 as Nepal's first national park and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Visitors go in on jeep safaris, dugout canoe trips on the Rapti, and walks with licensed guides, with a good chance of seeing greater one horned rhinos, spotted deer, crocodiles and many birds. Tigers live here but sightings are rare. Park entry permits are required and are sold at the park counter in Sauraha.
