Kemmangundi began as a summer retreat for the Mysore royal family under Krishnaraja Wodeyar IV, who later handed it over to the state, and it remains one of the more accessible hill stations in the district thanks to its manicured gardens and gentle walking trails. Rock gardens, rose beds, and small streams give it a softer character than Mullayanagiri or Baba Budangiri, making it a good fit for families or visitors short on trekking stamina. It also serves as the base point for both Z Point and Hebbe Falls.
