Thiruvetkalam Pasupatheswarar Temple is an ancient Shiva shrine located about 4 km from Chidambaram, believed to be over 2,000 years old. It is recognised as one of the 276 Devara Paadal Petra Shiva Sthalams and holds the distinction of being the second Shiva Sthalam on the northern bank of the Cauvery in Chozha Nadu after Thillai itself. The presiding deity is worshipped as Pasupatheswarar, the Lord of All Beings, alongside his consort Nalla Nayaki. According to mythology, this is the site where Arjuna received the powerful Pashupatastra weapon from Lord Shiva during his period of penance.
