Valluvar Kottam

Built in 1976, Valluvar Kottam honours the classical Tamil poet and philosopher Thiruvalluvar, best known for writing the Thirukkural. The monument is designed as a giant stone chariot, similar in style to the one at Thiruvarur temple, and stands 39 metres tall. Inside the auditorium, all 1,330 verses of the Thirukkural are carved onto stone panels along the walls. As Chennai's largest Tamil cultural landmark, it draws both tourists and Tamil literature enthusiasts, and its location in Nungambakkam makes it an easy addition to a Central Chennai sightseeing day.
