Sukhna Lake is a man-made reservoir created in 1958 by damming the Sukhna Choe seasonal stream at the foot of the Shivalik Hills. The 3 km lakeside promenade is Chandigarh's most beloved public space, animated with morning walkers, cyclists, boating families and vendors from dawn onwards. Paddle boats, rowboats and shikaras ply the calm water, and the hills rising behind the eastern shore make it one of North India's most photogenic urban settings. The Garden of Silence and Sukhna Wildlife Sanctuary are adjacent.
