Chandi Mandir Temple

A Shakti Peetha from which Chandigarh takes its name, 15 km away on the Chandigarh-Kalka highway.

Chandi Mandir Temple on the Chandigarh-Kalka highway, 15 km from the city, is the ancient Shakti Peetha from which Chandigarh takes its name: Chandi the goddess, and garh the fort that once stood nearby. Dedicated to Goddess Chandi, a fierce form of Durga, the temple is a recognised Siddh Peeth where wishes are believed to be granted. It sits close to Mansa Devi Temple and both are typically visited together. The annual Navratri festivals transform the complex with lights, temporary markets and massive congregations of devotees.
