Capitol Complex

UNESCO World Heritage Site housing Le Corbusier's masterworks: Secretariat, High Court, Assembly and the Open Hand Monument.

Capitol Complex is the administrative and architectural heart of Chandigarh, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2016 as part of the global listing of Le Corbusier's works. Spread over 100 acres, the complex houses the Punjab and Haryana High Court, Secretariat and Legislative Assembly, each a landmark of 20th-century Brutalist and modernist architecture. The iconic Open Hand Monument, a rotating 26-metre steel sculpture designed by Le Corbusier as a symbol of peace and giving, stands at the complex's northern edge alongside the Martyrs' Memorial, Tower of Shadows and Geometric Hill.
