Koshak Mahal

A 15th century four block Malwa Sultanate palace built to mark a military victory, now standing in ruins.

Koshak Mahal was built in 1445 by Mahmud Shah Khilji of the Malwa Sultanate to commemorate his victory over the ruler of Kalpi, and stands on the Isagarh Chanderi road as a square structure of four similarly sized mansions arranged around a central space. Constructed entirely of stone with wide arched doorways, the palace was intended as a grand residence but appears never to have been fully completed. Its scale and Islamic architectural detailing still stand out clearly despite the centuries of decay.
