Jageshwari Devi Temple is built around an open cave on a hillside below Chanderi Fort and is counted among the Shakti Peethas, with tradition tracing its origin to the Mahabharata era devotion of King Shishupal. The self manifested image inside shows only the goddess's face, and nearby stand two large Shiva lingams carved with over a thousand miniature lingams across their surface. Natural springs trickle down the cliff beside the shrine, feeding a small pond partway up the stairway, and the temple draws its largest crowds during Navratri.
