Deoban, the forest of the gods, is a stand of old deodar cedar on a high ridge above Chakrata, reached by a narrow forest road. The forest is quiet apart from birdsong, which makes it a favourite with birdwatchers, and clearings along the ridge look out over the Yamuna side and, on clear days, a long line of Himalayan snow peaks. There are no shops, so carry food and water. The last stretch of road is rough in places, and a local taxi is a better choice than a low car. It is often combined with Kanasar on the same day.
