Chilmiri Neck

Chilmiri Neck is an open grassy ridge a few kilometres from Chakrata market and the easiest viewpoint to reach from town. Locals come up in the evening for the sunset, and on clear days the view runs across the forested Jaunsar hills towards the snow peaks of the Bandarpoonch range. Early morning is best for the clearest mountain views. It sits within the cantonment, so stay on the road and open ground, and do not photograph army installations. Carry water and a warm layer, as there is little shelter on the ridge.
