Nawal Sagar Lake

Central artificial lake with a half submerged Varuna temple and palace reflections.

Built by Maharaja Ummed Singh to feed Bundi's stepwells during dry spells, Nawal Sagar Lake sits at the heart of the old town, ringed by walls and reached through two gateways. A shrine to Varuna, the Hindu deity of water, stands partly submerged at its centre and is accessible only by boat. The lake's still surface throws back reflections of Taragarh Fort and the surrounding palaces above.
