Thai Monastery, known formally as Wat Thai Buddhagaya, was established in 1956 by the government of Thailand at the request of then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru to strengthen ties between the two nations. Its golden sloping roofs and richly ornamental design closely resemble the temples of Bangkok, making it a striking visual contrast in the town. The monastery hosts regular meditation sessions and remains the only Thai temple in India.
