Dungeshwari Cave Temple sits within the Dungeshwari Hills a short drive from Bodh Gaya, marking the caves where Buddha is believed to have practised austerities for around six years before travelling on to attain enlightenment. Stupas and Buddhist shrines remain scattered across the site amid scenic hill surroundings. The location also draws trekkers, and is often combined with a day trip to the nearby Barabar Caves.
