Shyam Rai Temple, built in 1643 by Malla king Raghunath Singha, is the largest stone temple in Bishnupur and a striking example of pancharatna, or five pinnacled, architecture. Rising 64 feet on a laterite base, its towers have weathered heavily over centuries of rain and wind, giving the structure an eroded yet commanding presence. Terracotta panels around its walls narrate scenes from Krishna's life. During Dolyatra, the temple's main idol is brought out for seven days of public worship.
