Smritivan Memorial Museum

An earthquake memorial and interactive museum atop Bhujiyo Dungar, honouring 2001 earthquake victims.

Smritivan Memorial Museum occupies Bhujiyo Dungar hill above Bhuj, built as both a memorial and an interactive museum commemorating the lives lost in the devastating 2001 Gujarat earthquake. In 2024 the museum earned the UNESCO Prix Versailles award, recognised among the world's most beautiful museums for its environmentally sensitive design and thoughtful architecture. Exhibits walk visitors through the earthquake's impact and Kutch's subsequent rebuilding, offering emotional and historical depth beyond the region's palaces and craft villages. The hilltop setting also provides sweeping views over Bhuj.
