Sharad Baug Palace

The last royal residence of Kutch's Maharao, now a museum with personal artefacts, set in a tranquil garden nursery.

Sharad Baug Palace was the private residence of Maharao Madansinghji, the last ruler of the Kutch princely state, who lived here until his death in 1991. The 1867 palace blends Indo-European architectural styles and was partially damaged in the 2001 earthquake. The dining hall has been converted into a museum displaying the Maharao's personal collection of weapons, paintings, stuffed wildlife trophies, silver artefacts and royal furniture. The surrounding garden, now a public nursery, is a tranquil green space and attracts migratory birds in winter.
