Lakhpat Fort

A largely deserted walled fort town in Lakhpat, once a flourishing trade settlement on the coast.

Lakhpat Fort encloses what was once a prosperous trading town on the Kori Creek, its name derived from the immense wealth the settlement generated before changing river courses and later conflicts led to its decline. Long stretches of the original fortification walls still stand, enclosing a largely empty town with a handful of historic structures and gurudwaras. The fort's remote, weathered atmosphere offers a striking contrast to Kutch's restored palaces. It pairs naturally with visits to nearby Narayan Sarovar and Koteshwar Temple.
