Kutch Museum

Gujarat's oldest museum, founded in 1877, with the world's largest Kshatrapa inscription collection and Kutchi tribal artefacts.

Kutch Museum, established in 1877 by Maharao Khengarji III, is the oldest museum in Gujarat. The present Italian Gothic building, designed by engineer McLelland, was built in 1884 to display the Maharao's wedding gifts. Its collection spans Kshatrapa rock inscriptions dating to the 1st century AD (the largest such collection in existence), examples of the extinct Kutchi script, tribal textiles and embroideries, musical instruments, archaeological finds, weapons and natural history specimens. The museum provides the essential grounding in Kutchi culture and history for any visitor to the region.
