Great Rann of Kutch is the world's largest salt desert, a vast treeless expanse of dried salt marsh extending across the northern border of Kutch. The white desert is at its most spectacular from November to February when it dries completely and glows silver-white under moonlight, and draws flamingos and other migratory birds to its fringes. The access point for tourists is the Dhordo tent city, about 80 km north of Bhuj, which hosts the annual Rann Utsav cultural festival from November to March. Camel rides at sunset and sunrise on the salt flats are the signature experience.
