Chhatardis

A cluster of ornate royal cenotaphs in Bhuj commemorating the Maharaos of Kutch.

The Chhatardis, or royal cenotaphs, form a cluster of memorial structures in Bhuj built to honour successive Maharaos of Kutch and members of the royal family. Each chhatardi features detailed stone carving in a style distinct from the region's temple architecture, reflecting a blend of Rajput and local Kutchi craftsmanship. Several of the structures sustained damage in the 2001 earthquake, and restoration work continues at parts of the site. The cenotaphs offer a quieter, less commercial heritage stop compared to the nearby Aina Mahal and Prag Mahal complex.
