Aina Mahal, the Palace of Mirrors, is Bhuj's most celebrated monument and among the finest examples of Kutchi royal architecture. Built in the mid-18th century by Rao Lakhpatji, it was designed and decorated by Ram Singh Malam, a local artisan who spent 17 years studying European craft techniques in the Netherlands and returned to create an extraordinary Indo-European interior. Every surface of the principal hall is covered in mirror work, Belgian glass chandeliers, Wedgwood tiles and gilded ornament. The museum now houses royal possessions including coins, weapons, furniture, wooden carriages and rare artefacts documenting the Kutch court.
