Vaital Deula

Built in the late 8th century, Vaital Deula is a striking example of the Khakhra style of Kalinga architecture, featuring a unique semi-cylindrical roof. Dedicated to Goddess Chamunda, this temple was historically a major center for Tantric worship. The exterior is covered with powerful carvings of deities and mythical figures, while the inner sanctum remains dark and atmospheric. It stands as a fascinating architectural anomaly compared to the more common circular spires found in Bhubaneswar.
