Bharatpur Government Museum

A 1944 museum inside Lohagarh Fort with stone sculptures, coins, inscriptions and royal artefacts from 1st-19th centuries.

Bharatpur Government Museum inside Lohagarh Fort was established in 1944 in the fort's former administrative building. Its galleries display an impressive collection spanning nearly two millennia: stone sculptures, terracotta items, ancient coins and inscriptions from the 1st century AD onwards, miniature paintings, traditional weapons, Rajput armour, silverware, textiles, musical instruments and personal effects of the Bharatpur royal family. A natural history section houses local wildlife specimens. The museum provides essential context for understanding the history of the Jat kingdom and the broader Braj cultural region.
