Magadhi is one of the three core zones of Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve, alongside Tala and Khitauli. Its tracks pass through sal and bamboo forest, open meadows and water holes, and it is known for good tiger sightings as well as gaur, sambar, chital and, in recent years, wild elephants. Magadhi is often less crowded than Tala while offering a similar chance of big cats.
The zone has a capped number of gypsies per shift, 26 in the morning on the official quota. Book core permits on the Madhya Pradesh Forest Department portal, forest.mponline.gov.in. The core is open from 1 October to 30 June, with morning and afternoon shifts. Choose a lodge near the Tala area, as safaris for Magadhi start close to the village.
