Khitauli is one of the three core zones of Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve, alongside Tala and Magadhi. Its tracks pass through sal and mixed forest, meadows and water holes on the eastern side of the core, with good chances of tigers, leopards, sloth bears, gaur and deer, and fewer vehicles than Tala.

Khitauli has a quota of 28 gypsies in the morning shift. Book core permits on the Madhya Pradesh Forest Department portal, forest.mponline.gov.in. The core is open from 1 October to 30 June, with morning and afternoon shifts. Check the gate location on your permit and allow travel time from your lodge.
