Mahakal Temple sits atop a forested hill five kilometers from Baijnath, reached by a forty five minute trek through oak and pine. Dedicated to Shiva in his fierce form as Mahakal, the shrine is tied to a legend of seven sacred kunds built by wandering sages, four of which still survive within the complex. The summit rewards visitors with a sweeping panorama of the Kangra Valley and the Dhauladhar range, best seen at sunrise.
