Vyas Gufa is a sacred cave on the banks of the Saraswati River in Mana Village, about 5 km from Badrinath. Believed to be over 5,000 years old, it is the site where Maharishi Vyasa is said to have composed the Mahabharata, the Vedas, the Brahma Sutras, and the eighteen Puranas. A shrine to Vyasa sits inside, and the cave's dome is said to resemble the leaves of a palm-leaf manuscript. An idol of the sage is installed within. The cave is one of the most atmospherically charged mythological sites in the Himalayan pilgrimage circuit.
