Brahma Kapal is a flat ritual platform on the bank of the Alaknanda River, situated about 100 metres north of the Badrinath Temple. It is one of the most significant sites in Hinduism for Pind Daan, the ancestral rites believed to grant liberation (moksha) to departed souls. According to legend, Lord Shiva was freed of the sin of Brahmahatya at this very spot, and Brahma's severed head fell here from Shiva's trident. Pilgrims travel specifically to perform Shraddha here, believing it ensures their ancestors' release from the cycle of rebirth.
