Bhutanatha Temple Group

Cluster of Shiva temples on the eastern bank of Agastya Lake, dating from the seventh and eleventh centuries.

The Bhutanatha Temple group sits on the eastern bank of Agastya Lake, facing the cave temples across the water. The older shrine dates to the seventh century while an outer mantapa was added during the later Kalyani Chalukya period. Dedicated to Shiva in his form as lord of souls and spirits, the temples are best photographed at sunrise when the lake reflects their curved towers. Locals still conduct daily rituals here, keeping the site active rather than purely archaeological.
