Kanak Bhavan

A richly decorated temple in Ayodhya housing golden idols of Ram and Sita, traditionally believed to have been gifted to Sita by Queen Kaikeyi.

Kanak Bhavan in Ayodhya is one of the most beloved and richly decorated temples in the city, dedicated to Lord Rama and Goddess Sita. According to tradition, the palace was gifted by Queen Kaikeyi to Sita as a wedding present, and the current temple complex preserves this association with a particularly intimate and domestic dimension of the Ramayana story. The presiding deities are golden idols of Rama and Sita, lavishly adorned with jewellery and dressed in fine garments that are changed daily according to season and festival. The temple is managed by the Vaishnava saint tradition and is known for its warm, devotional atmosphere distinct from the grander monuments of Ayodhya. The complex draws thousands of pilgrims daily and is especially vibrant during Ram Navami, Vivah Panchami (celebrating the wedding of Rama and Sita), and Diwali.
