Dashrath Mahal

Dashrath Mahal in Ayodhya is the palace traditionally identified as the royal residence of King Dashrath, father of Lord Rama, and is an important stop on the Ayodhya pilgrimage circuit. The complex houses a temple dedicated to Lord Rama and his brothers, and its association with the Ramayana makes it a site of deep devotional significance. According to tradition, this is the palace where Dashrath received the kheer (sacred pudding) from the Putrakameshti yajna and distributed it to his wives, leading to the birth of Rama, Bharata, Lakshmana, and Shatrughna. Pilgrims visiting Ayodhya traditionally include Dashrath Mahal as part of the Panchakosi Parikrama, the ceremonial circumambulation of the sacred city, which covers all the major sites associated with the Ramayana.
