Salim Ali Lake

A bird sanctuary and lake on the edge of Aurangabad named after India's foremost ornithologist.

Salim Ali Lake on the northwestern outskirts of Aurangabad is a peaceful bird sanctuary named in honour of India's legendary ornithologist. The shallow lake and its marshy surrounds attract over 200 species of resident and migratory waterbirds including flamingos, painted storks, spoonbills and various ducks. A short loop track around the lake allows visitors to birdwatch and enjoy the open wetland landscape at the edge of the city. It is most rewarding during the winter months when migratory species arrive.
