Panchakki, meaning water mill, is a 17th-century Sufi complex near the dargah of Hazrat Zain-ud-Din Shirazi in Aurangabad. The highlight is an ingenious hydraulic mill driven by an underground channel that brings water from a source 8 km away, releasing it in a jet that once powered the mill to grind grain for pilgrims. The water falls into a large ornamental tank in the garden, creating a constant cascade. The complex also includes a madrasa, mosques, a sarai and a pavilion, set within a shady garden of tamarind trees that is enormously atmospheric.
